El consumo excesivo de alcohol es un problema de salud pública que provoca millones de muertes cada año. Más allá de sus efectos en el organismo, también daña la salud bucodental, aumenta el riesgo de caries, enfermedad periodontal, desgaste, manchas, halitosis, traumatismos y, en casos graves, cáncer oral. Estos daños se relacionan con la reducción de saliva, el debilitamiento de la mucosa y la disminución de defensas inmunológicas. Afortunadamente, la prevención es posible mediante hábitos sencillos: higiene bucal adecuada, consumo moderado y visitas periódicas al dentista para la detección temprana de complicaciones.
Abstract
Excessive alcohol consumption is a public health problem that causes millions of deaths each year. Beyond its effects on the body, it
also damages oral health, increasing the risk of tooth decay, periodontal disease, dental wear, tooth staining, halitosis, oral trauma,
and in severe cases, oral cancer. This damage is related to reduced saliva, weakened mucosa, and decreased immune defenses. Fortunately, prevention is possible through simple habits: proper oral hygiene, moderate alcohol consumption, and regular visits to the dentist for early detection of complications.
