Abstract
Orthodontics aims to establish a harmonious relationship between the teeth, temporomandibular joint, and the neuromuscular system. However, some patients experience relapse, where the teeth return to their initial position, due to factors such as the remodeling of periodontal tissues, lack of occlusal stability, pressure from facial muscles, and the eruption of third molars. To prevent this, fixed or removable retainers are used to allow tissue adaptation. Constant use of retainers in the first months is crucial, and the choice of retainer type depends on the patient’s specific case.
